SEVR BROADHEADS // PROPER SHOT PLACEMENT ON TURKEYS —
SEVR shooter Josh Hubbs (@hubbz14) gives bowhunters his shot placement advice when hunting turkeys in 3 different scenarios: 1) side shot – full strut, 2) frontal shot & 3) frontal shot – full strut.

Side Shot – Full Strut
“When a bird goes full strut, you get a lot of fluff feather at the top and the front half of the bird, making them appear larger than they actually are,” Hubbs says. “I like to go up the leg, come to the wing, and find the change in the feathers. You’ve got what I like to call the flight feathers and the shoulder feathers. Find the shoulder feathers and send it through there – this de-mobilizes the bird, and gives you a chance to hit both lungs, creating a quick, ethical kill.”
Frontal Shot
“If you jump over here to a frontal shot, what I like to do is: come 3 inches down from the shoulder, and about one inch above the beard,” Hubbs says. “Again, this de-mobilizes the bird and gives you the best chance to send it straight through both lungs, making a quick, clean ethical kill.”
Frontal Shot – Full Strut
Now, when a bird is at full strut – this is probably a lot of y’alls favorite – what I like to do is: come straight down the fan and go for the good old “Texas heart shot,” Hubbs says. “Again, this gets you center mass on the bird, giving you the best chance possible of hitting all vitals.”
